Discover Northeast Jutland from The Ancient Road cycling trail

Photo: Jens Kirkeby

North Jutland is not only the tip of Jutland! In North Jutland, the ground has risen since the last ice age and formed the large, high plains, through which The Ancient Road will lead you. It seems as though one can see a little bit more of everything from up there.

On Hærvejen in Northeast Jutland

The Ancient Road in Northeast Jutland runs between the harbour town Frederikshavn and the town Aalborg at the Limfjord. The landscape is typical for North Jutland: wide plains, the sea, forests and open agricultural land.

From the harbour town Frederikshavn you cycle through the botanical garden Bangsbo and follow the watercourse Vrangbækken for a while. Further south you cycle through Østervrå before the route leads you through the historically interesting and large forests on the ridge of land called Jyske Aas.  Follow the route further through forests and open scenery and the towns of Hjallerup and Dronninglund towards the wooded hills of Hammer Bakker in the north of Aalborg.
