Vejle Ådal and the history of Denmark

The river valley of Vejle Ådal offers a range of heritage attractions, making a hiking trip through a journey through scenic nature and the nation’s history. The landscape was shaped by the Ice Age watershed many thousands of years ago. Vejle Ådal has historically been the subject of numerous historical events. Here, Iron Age warriors lived, and here Viking King Harald Bluetooth built a wooden bridge over the Ravning meadows in 980. The green grass of the river valley has been used for grazing since time immemorial, and the rivers have supplied energy for grain milling and industry. This is why the area offers a wealth of stories about the people who have lived and worked here.

The Vejle Ådal river valley meanders beautifully through the countryside and so does its river, which with its twists and bends offer prime angling. The villages are dotted across the plains.
