Hiking Stage | Rebild (approx. 5 km)

Frendrup Nihøje

One of the most significant groups of preserved barrows in the region of Himmerland, the seven barrows are all from the Stone Age, approx. 3000 BC. Here traces of Iron Age settlement have also been found.

Katbakken

The area offers opportunities to stay in shelters and tents. Here you also find sports fields, a natural obstacle course and a planet themed walk. There is disabled friendly access.

The Ancient Road meanders along glacial landscapes. When the Ice Age came to an end, meltwater drained westward towards the ice-free area. After the ice had retreated, streams and rivers in the area could also run eastward. The Ancient Road emerged along this glacial ridge where there were no rivers for travellers to cross.

The Ancient Road generally bypasses bogs and marshland since the aim of travellers in olden days was to avoid crossing water. However, in Southern Jutland the Ancient Road passes close by Abkær Mose and Stengelmose.
